A group of former players of the Uganda national football team on Monday morning stormed FUFA House in Mengo, the headquarters of the country’s football governing body demanding for the overhaul of the entire administration.
The group led by Dan Walusimbi, George Ssemwogerere and Phillip Obwiny came with another group of demonstrators with placards that expressed their dissatisfaction with the current FUFA administration led by Eng. Moses Magogo.
“The way they are running football in the country is not the best, we feel they have ruined this football generation,” said one Obadia Ssemakula a former Coffee FC player.
“When a former national team player falls sick, the current FUFA regime does not care. What they only look at is how they are going to benefit and their families.”
The former national team players expressed concern over the way the current Magogo administration is running FUFA stressing that the body has been turned into a personal property.
The group also blamed State Minister for Sports Charles Bakabulindi of being one of the forces that have contributed to this state of affairs, stressing that the junior minister only turns a blind eye as this mess continues.
“We feel he (Bakkabulindi) is one of those people who have taken the game of football to the limbo. He is not fit to be a sports minister,” said Edward Nsubuga who once played for Nsambya FC.
The group later managed to force themselves into the premises of FUFA house but were calmed by police led by Old Kampala DPC Charles Nsaba .
They entered into a meeting with police in a bid to see how to solve the impasse.
“We have reached an agreement that police guard FUFA house as we go for a meeting but I want to assure you that football has won,” Dan Walusimbi told his supporters.
“Let the law take its due course now.”
In 2012, Dan Walusimbi a former Cranes player along with a group of ex-cranes stars formed a contrary body supposed to run football in the country naming it FUFA .
Walusimbi holds the certificate of incorporation as a trustee for FUFA.
However according to a statement by FUFA,the situation was handled successfully by police and normalcy returned.
“The early Monday morning raid of our offices by a group of some former players is under control following intervention of Old Kampala DPC Charles Nsaba and his team,”read part of a statement on the FUFA website.
