Uganda Rugby Cranes head coach, Tolbert Onyango has named a 14- man team that will participate in the upcoming rugby HSBC 7s series.
Onyango is confident his team is ready for the challenge and believes they have had enough time to prepare for the circuits.
“Immediately after winning the Africa rugby 7s cup, we began preparations for the three events and I believe we have improved a lot,” he said.
“It is a great opportunity that we shall be playing against the world’s best, so we want to use this chance to compete with them,” added Onyango.
There are only two additions from the team that won the Africa rugby 7s championship in Kenya with Michael Wokorach and Byron Oketayot making the cut.
However, only 12 of the 14 players will travel with the team with Fred Odur and Asuman Mugerwa on standby in case of any injuries.
Uganda won the Africa rugby 7s championship in Nairobi, Kenya in September this year to land slots in three world 7s series that is Dubai 7s, Durban 7s and Capetown tournament.
The team is expected to leave for Dubai on 28th November with the tournament slated for 2nd and 3rd December and will later connect to South Africa for the Durban and Capetown tournament.
In a similar development, the lady’s rugby national team head coach Helen Koyokoyo Buteme has also named her squad for Dubai 7s circuit.
