CAF confederation cup
Preliminary round, first leg
Vipers SC vs Volcano club di Moroni
Saturday, 11th February 2017
Sports Club Vipers return to continental football for the second year running after their maiden appearance when they played in the CAF champions league but were eliminated by Enyimba at the initial stage.
This time round, Vipers play against Comoros’ Volcan club di Moroni in the first leg of the preliminary round of the CAF confederation cup at Mandela national stadium on Saturday.
Striker Erisa Keith Ssekisambu is confident they have what it takes to have a comfortable win in the first leg and eventually go on to advance to the next round.
“I believe we have improved a lot as a team especially going forward. The team has different sources of goals at the moment and I believe that will be vital against Moroni,” he said.
Ssekisambu indicates that unlike last year where Vipers were playing at the stage for the first time, this time round, they are a better side and have learnt a lot.
“I believe there was some stage freight at some point that affected us against Enyimba because most of the players were playing at such a stage for the first time,” Ssekisambu stated.
“Tonny Odur, Musa Esenu, Moses Waiswa, Milton Kalisa and Mike Sserumaga have all brought a different dimension to the team which is a big motivation going into this game,” indicated the striker.
However, Vipers will not be without midfielder Mike Sserumaga who sustained an injury in the 2-0 win against Lweza on Tuesday.
The winner on aggregate between Vipers and Moroni will play against South African side Platinum Stars or Uniso Do Songo of Mozambique.
