The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has officially confirmed the dismissal of Buikwe She Red stars from the Fufa women elite league.
Buikwe have been thrown out of the league for failure to honor three games this season a thing that contravenes with the competitions regulations.
According to Article 24 of the Fufa competitions rules, a team that fails to honor three league games is relegated.
In a letter dated 16th February 2017 written to Buikwe She Red stars, Ali Mweebe, the Fufa competitions director confirmed that the team has been dismissed for failure to honor three games even before the end of the first round.
“I can confirm that, by the time of demotion, your club has played less than 50℅ of the league i.e not completed the first round of the league. Therefore, article 24(10) of the Fufa competitions rules has been invoked,” noted Mweebe.
Buikwe She Red Stars who were runners up in the inaugural season in 2015 have missed three games against Kawempe Muslim, Western United and London stallions.
The team failed to travel to Kawempe on 19th November 2016 and also didn’t honor a home fixture against Western United, despite the away team travelling from Mbarara to Buikwe.
The last game they missed was against London stallions on 5th February 2017 at Seeta Church of Uganda playground.
ChimpSport reached out to Buikwe She Red Stars team manager, Pius Konoweka in a phone interview and he denied receiving the letter throwing them out of the league.
“We haven’t received any letter from the Federation regarding the matter. But we expected that, we have had issues since the start of the season but no one was ready to listen,” he said.
“Our players who still have contracts with us are playing for other clubs, does the Federation allow double licensing?” the team manager furiously asked.
Some of the players who left Buikwe include Maggie Kayima (now at Riness FC), Sharon Naddunga (Kawempe Muslim) and Annet Nakimbugwe (Kampala Queens) among others.
Konoweka also indicated that they will not appeal the case through the Federation’s appeals committee but are taking the matter to courts of law.
“We are not going to appeal their decision, instead we are going to court,” he said.
