The Saints football club caused a major upset to the league leaders KCCA FC after a shock 2-1 victory on Tuesday at the war Memorial stadium in Nakivubo.

The city lads, who were the hosts, came into the game requiring only three consecutive victories to lift the title but Saint had other survival thoughts in mind.

The Saints had earlier in the game launched a series of dangerous attacks but kept off by the defence commanded by Emmanuel Opio. However, the wall would last past the 26th minute following a quick counter attack that ended up in the box to find Alex Kitata in free space to bullet in a header beyond Opio’s reach.

Nigerian import Sulaimon Akinyemi pulled the hearts of the yellow fans back into the game with a low strike to level proceedings three minutes to the break.

Ivan Kiwewa restored the lead just at the stroke of halftime from the spot.

The victory lifts the strugglers to five points above relegation zone with a game remaining at hand while their day’s host holds onto the top spot, nine points clear off Vipers in the second place

However, the defending champions have two at hand and can cut the points to three with both yet to face in the second round.
