Uganda’s representatives at the Women’s African volleyball club championship,Ndejje University Elites will start their campaign with an uphill challenge against hosts and pre-tournament favorites Carthage.

With the tournament getting underway on Thursday (today) Ndejje Elites who have been drawn in group A will serve off the tournament against hosts Carthage at Mzali Hall in Kelibia City,Tunisia.

Carthage reached the finals last year but lost 3-2 to All Ahly and would want to use the chance that they are at home to win the championship.

This is Ndejje’s 4th appearance at the annual continental showpiece and coach Kawenyera Johnson believes they have garnered the experience to start competing with the big sides.

“We have players who have played at this level for two or three times and thus we have gained the necessary experience to start competing,” he said before the departed on Monday.

“We are looking at making out of the groups and maybe we can build on that because as a matter of fact, we still have a big gap to reach the level of the elite clubs like Al Ahly,Carthage and Prisons,” he added.

Ndejje Elite’s best show was in Antananarivo in Madagascar in 2013 when they finished 8th. They are in group A alongside Ivory Coast’s Asec, Tunisia’s Carthage and INJS from Cameroon.

The tournament is expected to run from 6th to 16 April 2017 and the winner represents Africa at the World club championship.
