Police football club head coach Abdallah Mubiru will not be on bench for at least for the next two league games after receiving a ban.

The Uganda Premier League Secretariat in a communication made on Thursday indicated that the Police tactian has been handled a two match ban following his violent conduct as Police played KCCA FC last week.

According to the letter suspending Mubiru, centre referee Ssali Mashood wrote in his match report that the tactician assaulted him in the game that Police came from two goals down to salvage a point against KCCA FC.

“Match officials report indicate that during AUPL match #174 Police FC vs KCCA FC played on Friday 31st March 2017 at Mandela National stadium (Namboole), Police FC head coach Abdallah Mubiru physically assaulted the referee Mr. Mashood Ssali as he entered the dressing room at halftime,” the statement reads.

Ssali who was the centre referee on the day sent off Mubiru off the bench in the 30th minute after protesting a decision to book Michael Birungi for a foul on Dennis Rukundo.

Therefore the Secretariat have evoked the law suspending Mubiru for two games and also fined him 300 AUS (UGX 300,000) payable before the ban lapses.

“Therefore, Mubiru was found guilty of violating article 30, clause 2 and 3 of the FUFA Competitions Rules 2016/17 which provides that, ‘A participant shall at all times act in the best interests of the game and shall not act in any manner which is improper or brings the game into disrepute or use any one, or a combination of; violent conduct, serious foul play, threatening, abusive, indecent or insulting words or behavior,” states the statute.

However, when contacted, Mubiru insists he did not assault Ssali Mashood as he claims.

“I tried to go and talk to him at halftime as he entered the dressing room at halftime but there was no intention to fight or assault him as he claims,” he said.

Mubiru will miss the game against Kirinya Jinja SS away in Jinja this Friday and the home clash against former employers Vipers.
