Express Football Club have been docked points by the Uganda Premier League for stadium violence.
According to the UPL Secretariat, Express fans led to the premature end of the game against Proline on Tuesday after pelting stones hence prompting match officials to abandon the game.
A letter dated 12th May 2017, written by Uganda Premier League CEO, Bernard Beinamani Bampaire says the red eagles failed to provide enough security to curb their fans.
“According to the official referees report, the home team (Express FC) failed to provide enough security and this gave room to their fans to throw stones hence abandonment of the game,” reads part of the statement.
The game played at Muteesa II stadium, Wankulukuku was abandoned in the 47th minute after angry Express FC fans hurled stones towards the assistant referee following Nigerian defender Vicent Onyebuch fracturing his left leg. Therefore Express FC have been docked three points and three goals and also fined UGX 1M.
The judgement means Express remain 6th on 40 points while Proline move to 7th on 38 points.
This is not the first time, Express are facing a fine for stadium violence this season.
Last year in October, the team was fined after pelting stones towards match officials in the game against Kirinya Jinja SS and were forced to play their next home game against Bright stars behind closed doors.
