A squad comprising of 23 players was selected on Tuesday to feature for the rugby cranes as they take on bitter rivals and neighbors Kenya in the Elgon Cup this weekend.

Rugby cranes assistant coach Robert Sseguya announced the squad on Tuesday with several surprises for those summoned and the veteran players dropped.

Several players will have the opportunity to make their debuts for the senior national team having made the grade after rigorous training sessions. These include; Robert Aziku, Adinan Mutebi and Aaron Ofoyrwoth.

However, seasoned players like Ronald Musajjagulanyago, James Ijongat, John Wandicho and Ramathan Govule, were not included on the team failing to impress the technical team.

Winger Justin Kimono returns to the national team fold after a spell of about 2 years that has seen him struggle with injuries, the latest being a knee injury. He is joined by veterans Alex Mubiru and Scot Oluoch who have also been absent for a while.

Uganda takes on Kenya in the first leg of the Elgon cup this Saturday at the Legends Rugby club with the aim of seeking revenge.

Kenya who arrive in the country on Thursday outwitted Uganda 48-10 last year at Legends Rugby Grounds to win the annual title.
