Express FC chairperson and Minister of state for Youth and Children affairs, Hon. Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi has indicated injured defender Vincent Onyebuchi is out of contract.

Nakiwala insists the club fulfilled its obligation of taking care of Onyebuchi during the time he spent at Mengo Hospital and because he is out of contract, the club cannot continue helping him.

Nakiwala made the remarks on Thursday while launching the 9th Commonwealth youth meeting.

“Vincent is out of danger. We fulfilled our obligation we did our part and he was discharged. No one can deny that,” she said.

“We catered for the period that was still on his contract and now that he not contracted to us, we can only advise and wish him well.”.

The Minister went ahead to warn people who have started a fundraising drive to collect money for Onyebuch, saying she will engage the police in case of any fraud.

“I’m not aware and part of the ongoing fundraising drive. I got a call this morning someone telling me he had sent Shs700,000. But if it goes wrong, we shall engage Police to arrest the people behind it,” she noted.

The Onyebuchi saga

Nigerian defender Vincent Onyebuch joined Express FC during the January transfer window.

He unfortunately broke his left leg on May 9, 2017 in a league game against Proline FC at Wankulukuku stadium and was rushed to Mengo Hospital.

The defender underwent a surgery at Mengo hospital and spent over a month bed ridden.

However, the recovery process hasn’t been smooth with recent scans indicating the some of the muscles were damaged during the operation.

He was discharged from Mengo hospital and transferred to Lisa Medical Centre, a facility belonging to Honourable Nakiwala but instead the situation continued to worsen.

With the leg virtually putrefied, the player sought for more help coming to the media last week.

He was transferred to Comprehensive Rehabilitation Services Hospital in Uganda at the start of the week.

Sadly, on Thursday, Vincent Onyebuchi got the sad news from the doctors indicating his career has come to an end with no hopes of playing again.

It is believed, Onyebuchi will be out for close to 2 years and even upon return, he will not be able to play.
