Top seeds Brian Kasirye and Shamim Bangi did not face any hurdles in emerging winners at the 2017 Mayeku Open.
Kasirye won the senior’s single and also claimed the men’s double in the three day tournament that climaxed on Sunday at the MTN Arena, Lugogo.
In the men’s single, Kasirye got a walkover after his opponent, David Mihigo retired following an injury.
In the men’s double, Kasirye teamed up with Davis Ssenono to defeat the pair of David Mihigo and Ivan Wanagaliya 21-16 and 21-13.
On the other side, Shamim Bangi bagged three accolades winning the singles, women’s double and the mixed doubles.
In the singles, she defeated seed 2, Aisha Nakiyemba 21-10 and 21-12.
The two later on teamed up to win the women’s doubles defeating the pair of Daisy Nakalyango and Mable Namakoye.
Bangi went ahead to claim the mixed doubles,playing alongside Fred Kirabo to cruise past Herbert Ebayo and Daisy Nakalyango.
The tournament bankrolled by former badminton ace David Mayeku attracted over 300 participants competing in different categories.
This was the second time the tournament was taking place. The inaugural edition was staged in 2015.
