On Sunday July 16, a team of ex-players led by David Kiwanuka, Sadiq Wasswa, Sam Kawalya and Stephen Billy Kiggundu held the first Goalkeeper’s clinic workshop at Startimes stadium in Lugogo.
The workshop which was officially opened up by FUFA Technical Director Asuman Lubowa was intended to teach the goalkeepers and goalkeepers’ coaches professional goalkeeping skills.
The workshop was attended by Dennis Masinde Onyango as the guest speaker whose speech dwelt on attaining confidence as a goalkeeper.

He also asked coaches to always identify weaknesses and strengths in the goalkeepers they train to make coaching more productive.
“It’s good to find all the faults in the keeper you train, and aid him or her to develop mental strength and also confidence so as they develop the required self-belief,” Onyango said.
Kiggundu, a goalkeeping coach at KCCA FC urged goalkeepers to always communicate as it helps reduce on errors made by defenders.
“When the goalie has good communication skills, he is an established leader at the back and this brings some organisation in the defence.”
The team further taught the attendees on how to improve the physical and emotional stability of their goalkeepers which is key if good results are to be obtained.
The instructors who were giving out lectures on board inside the stadium offices went further to take the audience into the pitch and demonstrated the drills physically.
The team revealed to ChimpReports that more goalkeeping workshops will be organised and they will later form a body which will be recognised by the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA).
Other notable figures present on the day included Bright Dhaira the dad of the late Cranes keeper Abel Dhaira, Lady Keeper Lwanga Racheal, Yusuf Ssenyonjo, Kiwanuka Daniel and many others.
