Big Prizes Up For Grabs in the Cycling Race to Honor Kabaka Coronation

In the upcoming sports events to mark Kabaka Muwenda Mutebi’s coronation in Buwekula on July 31, the Uganda Cycling Federation have beefed up the prize money for the cycling race top performers.

Speaking ahead of the event scheduled on July 29 in Mubende, Godfrey Kalyango, the head of communications for the Uganda Cycling Federation told ChimpReports that the preparations have so far been a success and the race winners from various categories are in for a good treat.

“The organizing committee has received 300 dollars (over Shs1m) that will be won in the race. We received the American currency from the federation President Mr. Mathius Lukwago.”

Kalyango added that the race winner in the Mountain bike and Tippa category will take USD200 and USD100 respectively.

“This is the 7th race on the Uganda Cycling federation calendar but it’s the second edition on that of Buganda. The federation has worked hand in hand with the Buganda province to organize this event.”

Kalyango revealed that the Buganda province has not confirmed with the federation on who will be the guest of honor but Buganda Sports Minister Hon Henry Kiberu Ssekabembe will grace the event.

He also said that participants’ registration has been a success.

“50 participants so far have been confirmed and these include the national cream of Jordan Ssekanwagi who won the Kabaka’s birthday cycling race, Aziz Ssempijja of super cycling and Paul Kato of Masaka cycling team.”

Other sponsors of the event include Groove Restaurant which has pledged to offer various trophies and medals on what promises to be a glamorous event.

Techno Mobile which will provide 4 mobile Smart phones to winners of various categories.

The 85 KM race circuit was inspected and confirmed by the delegation from Buganda province cycling association and the Uganda Cycling Federation.

The circuit which will be covered a dozen times, will commence from Buwekula County headquarters, head to Mubende town through the Police Junction then run to Kasaana playground via Club One and finish back to the head quarters.
