The Uganda national volleyball team put up a resilient performance to edge past Kenya in the first game at the CAVB Zone V World championship qualifiers.
In a nail baiting encounter at the Amahoro indoor stadium in Kigali, Uganda eventually won the game 3-2 to serve off the tournament on a high.
Uganda won the first two sets of the game with Kenya seemingly at sixes and sevens. The first set ended 26-24 while the second finished 25-21 as Uganda seemed to sail through.
However, Kenya returned rejuvenated in the third set winning 25-17 to resuscitate hopes of a comeback.
They even went ahead to level matters claiming the fourth set 26-24 which meant, the game had to be determined with a decider.
Uganda eventually won 15-12 to claim victory in the game.
Uganda will now shift focus on taking on hosts Rwanda in the second game. Rwanda defeated South Sudan in their first game
The top two teams after a round robin format will qualify for Africa Cup of Nations tournament scheduled for Egypt in October.
From the African of Nations, the top two teams will represent Africa at the World Championship set to be co-hosted by Italy and Bulgaria next year.
