Ladies: JKL Lady Dolphins 57-58 KCCA Leopards
KCCA Ladies’ Basketball Team, the Leopards extended their unbeaten run with a 57-58 overtime victory against fellow title contenders the Dolphins in the Ladies National Basketball League game played at the YMCA Outdoor court in Wandegeya.
The build up to the game had signs that this was a cracker, and realistically, it lived to the billing as nothing could not separate the two giants with a tied score of 51-51 after the 4 quarters.
In overtime, KCCA Leopards scored 7 more points and limited Lady Dolphins to 6 points to clinch a slight upper hand and seal a hard fought 57-58 victory.
Speaking after the game, KCCA Leopards coach, Roger Sserunyigo said: “It was a tough encounter, but I had told my girls that this will be matchematical, we had beaten this same team by like 24 points in the Easter cup, the gap reduced when we beat them in the first round, so it had to be very marginal in this one.”
“Our opponents are working hard every day, JKL is now shooting actually better than us, but am glad that we managed to overcome them and my target still is to remain unbeaten.”
Moreen Amoding scored 20 points, including 3 well converted shots from downtine but it was a spectacular man of the match performance from Martha Soigi that was pivotal in the Leopards’ victory. Soigi scored a double of 19 points and 12 rebunds.
JKL on the hand had Oketcho ‘Flirsh’ Flavia who had a good game though she ended up on a losing side. She scored 17 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals on the day.
“It was a good game overall,” started Flirsh. “They led, we led; which means that each team makes mistakes. Am a different kind of player, every game I loose, I try to learn from my mistakes, so my biggest competition is myself.”
