Bright stars 2-1 Kirinya Jinja SS

Champions stadium, Mwererwe, continues to be a bad hunting ground for most of the visiting teams.

And it was the similar case on Tuesday as Bright stars put up a spirited fight to defeat Kirinya Jinja SS and register their first victory this season.

Despite going down in the early stages of the game, Bright stars staged a comeback to eventually win the game 2-1.

Musa Esenu had given the visitors the lead four minutes after kickoff after lashing to a long ball, beating the Bright stars defence for pace before slotting past goalkeeper Hamza Muwonge.

However, the home side kept surging forward with the attacking trio of Seif Batte, Nelson Ssenkatuka and Fred Segujja asking a number of questions on the Kirinya defence.

Ssenkatuka levelled matters in the 27th minute heading home from Seif Batte’s cross and the two teams returned to the dressing rooms level at one all.

Second half substitute Joshua Kawadwa was the saviour of the day as he came off the bench to score the winner.

Kawadwa had replaced midfielder Farouk Banga in the 65th minute and eleven minutes later he was able to register his name on the score sheet.

The lanky forward was quick to tap home a rebound after goalkeeper Thomas Ikara spilled the ball from Nelson Ssenkatuka’s free kick.

The result means Bright stars move to 3rd place on six points while Kirinya Jinja SS drop two slots to 6th on 5 points.
