
A contingent of fourteen people has this afternoon departed for South Korea for the 7th World Cup Woodball Championship and the 5th Korea Open Woodball Championship which will be held concurrently.
Background
This is the fourth time Uganda woodball federation sends participants to the global bi-annual event since 2010 where Onesmus Atamba was the sole representation in the 4th World Cup Woodball Championship held in Thailand.
Two years later Uganda fielded eight players to Malaysia for the 5th edition where the females were ranked 8th out of 14 countries.
In the previous championship (2014) hosted in China, Uganda was represented by 24 players. The ladies team finished sixth while men’s 8th.
2016 edition
Due to financial constraints the federation has only sent seven competitors who will take part in the two simultaneous events.
They include 2014 Korea Open silver medalist Lilian Zawedde, Isaac Ariho from Botladz Woodball Club, Atamba Onesmus (Ndejje Woodball Club), Charity Nagaba (Zoe Woodball Club)
Bank of Uganda’s trio of William Likiriat Osire, Godwin Ssennyondo Nakaana and Norbert Dramani.
The federation president Mark Paul Kayongo is the leader of delegation while George Isabirye is team tactician.
Ms. Nakajjubi Sarah from Nalinnya Lwantale Girls P/S will be the first Ugandan to officiate at the Woodball World Cup and therefore will head straight to the International Referees Workshop to qualify as International Woodball Referees.
