Proline FC vs UPDF FC
Proline FC will today play host to the vising UPDF FC in the Azam Uganda Premier League for what is expected to be a closely contested battle at the Startime Stadium in Lugogo.
Coming into this duel at the back of a 2-1 loss to Kirinya Jinja SS in Bugembe recently, Proline FC will look to return to winning ways as they host struggling UPDF.
Proline FC who started this season’s campaign with a vital point in Arua following a goalless draw against Onduparaka FC, have so far collected 7 points with both of their two victories (Soana 2-0 and Mbarara 3-0) coming at home.
However, if Proline are to get their third victory this season past UPDF, they are to achieve it without the injured trigent of Ivan Bukenya, Noordin Bunjo and Joshua Okiror.
Despite those absentees, Proline Coach Mujib Kasule remains positive:
“We are in a good shape and I believe that my Boys are going to put up a strong performance.
“UPDF FC are a strong side so I do respect them even without their departed coach Basena,” said the Proline soft spoken tactician.
The Bombo Barracks-based side recently released their head coach Moses Basena officially for a period of two months if we are to go with what the letter which was released by Club PR Edmund Kintu.
The letter which was dated October 23 revealed that John Kayanja was promoted to the role of head coach and the long serving servant at the Club will be assisted by Boniface Kongo and Julius Checkichan.
Relegation looming for the Army side
Visitors UPDF come at Lugogo in a relegation zone, sitting 15th on the 16 team log with just 5 points gathered in their six league games and nothing but at least a draw can change their position come the final whistle.
Last season, UPDF FC which played under the name of the Saints, survived the cut by the skin of their teeth as the side won just 4 games on the road to finish 12th on the table, with just one point above the dead end.
This season, it seems like the side has not learnt a lesson from their past misfiring, as they have lost all three of their trips in the league; lost 2-1 against URA in Namboole on the opening day of the season, BUL FC (2-0) in Kakindu and SC Villa (2-0) in Masaka.
Previous Meetings
These two sides met twice in the league last season; At Lugogo, Edrisa Lubega (Proline) and Godfrey Wakaza (UPDF/Saints) each scored a brace as UPDF held 10 man Proline following Saka Mpiima’s sent off.
The sides later played out to a one all goal draw in Bombo barracks in the return fixture on Friday, April 21st this year.
