Micho Set For Zambia National Team Job

Former Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic is set to be appointed as Zambia national team head coach according to the latest reports.

The Chipolopolo has been without a substantive head coach since they sent Belgian Sven Vandenbroeck packing in February last year.

Late last year, they had announced that they had embarked on a recruitment process and released a shortlist.

Micho was facing competition from Portuguese gaffer Abel Xavier, former AFC Leopards coaches Ivan Minnaert and Pieter de Jongh.

A per the reports, Zambia FA met on Monday evening and settled on the Serbian and an official announcement will be made later this week.

His name and contract details will be forwarded to Zambia’s Ministry of Sports for approval.

The country’s ministry is responsible for paying salary for Chipolopolo’s head coach and staff.

Micho brings to the 2012 AFCON champions a wealth of experience earned from various African leagues and at the continental level.

He has coached top sides such St Georges in Ethiopia, Al Hilal and Omdurman in Sudan, Uganda Premier League side SC Villa as well as Tanzanian giants Yanga SC.

He has also coached continental heavyweights Orlando Pirates and Zamalek SC.

He was also the coach of Rwanda national team and guided Uganda Cranes to their first-ever AFCON championships in 39 years in 2017.
