The first round of the 2020 season of National Motocross (MX) Championship was officially launched at the Uganda Olympic Committee on Tuesday afternoon.
This will be the first motorcycling event organized by the new administration on the 2020 Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) calendar since taking over office on 1st February.
The championship is aimed at giving back to the fans of the sport as entrance fee will be worth buying a Shs. UGX 2000 bottle of Soda.
The MX1 Motocross championship will be held on Sunday 23rd February at Garuga.
It is expected to attract more than 70 riders as registration for the entrance will end on the day of the event.
Speaking to the media, Dipu Ruparelia the newly elected FMU president said they saw it befitting to give back to the fans and sponsors who have made the sport great and hence staging up a free event.
“We have put up this event to give back to the fans and sponsors. This is a new administration and therefore our fans and sponsors should expect many surprises from the FMU,” he added.
The championship also received massive boost from a credit firm Ntende Finance that will give out 15 litres of fuel to each female rider that will take part in the race.
The sponsorship package was disclosed by Mrs. Carol Nabroire who represented the credit firm.
“As Ntende Finance, we are grateful to have come on board and get involved in this first MX championship. We shall give out 15 litres of fuel to each female rider and as time goes on, we shall do something bigger for the male riders too.
In preparations for the first round on the calendar, FMU is tirelessly working on the track to soften the ground and ensure safety and is open to anyone willing to race in the motocross championship.
Wasswa Elia who the Chairman Organising committee MX1, parent rider George Semakula, Arthur Blick, Uganda Olympic Committee president William Blick were all in attendance.
