Event: 2020 Kabaka Birthday Run

Buganda Kingdom and partners, on Wednesday announced 5th April, 2020 as the date for the highly anticipated Kabaka Birthday Run seventh edition.
The event held at Bulange Mengo, also saw the announcing of tickets and the official unveiling of this year’s kit.
Under the theme, ‘Men against AIDS to save girl child’, the Run will be focusing on creating awareness about HIV/AIDS and encouraging tests and treatment.
Speaking during the press briefing, the Airtel Uganda Managing Director VG Somasekhar called onto Uganda’s to join the noble cause and bring HIV/AIDS awareness to the fore front,
“Having created a lot of awareness towards Fistula and sickle cells over the past six years, we now want to shine more light onto HIV/AIDS in the Buganda Kingdom and the entire Country,” Somasekhar said
According to 2018 UNAIDS statistics, 1400,000 people in Uganda were living with HIVand the prevalence rate- the percentage of people living with HIV among adults (15-49 years) was 5.7%.
The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga reiterated that all Ugandans should join the race and also get to know their statuses.
“Now that the date has been set, we encourage everyone to go buy tickets and start exercising as we prepare for the upcoming Run. We are running for a cause and we would like to encourage men to go and get tested and treated so as to protect the girl child.” Yiga noted.
The run will be flagged off in Lubiri Mengo by the Kabaka for the 5Km, 10kms and 21km routes.
The Kits and tickets can be bought from selected Airtel Service Centers and also through Airtel Money.
