Uganda, having been confirmed as host of the second round of the group D Beach Volleyball Continental Women’s Olympic qualifiers, will look to move one step closer to the 2020 Olympics.
The Continental confederation Cup beach Volleyball Olympic qualifiers event will see participating teams vie for the final slot to represent Africa in the Olympic Games in Japan.
The Five African Nations of Egypt, Guinea Conakry, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and hosts Uganda will take part in this second qualification round slated for 10th – 13th March 2020 at the White Sand Beach in Entebbe.
Uganda will be represented by a senior Women’s team of different age groups U18, U20, and U23 in the forthcoming Championship.
Speaking during the launch on Friday at the National Council of Sports in Lugogo, Uganda Volleyball Federation President, Hajjat Hadija Namanda feels optimistic about qualification despite being pitted against stronger opponents.
“Our team is well prepared and has been involved in thorough preparations since the climax of the first Qualification round in Tanzania in January 2020. We anticipate performing at our level best and qualifying for the final round despite having strong teams in our group like Mozambique and Egypt,” said Namanda.

Uganda Women’s Volleyball team finished second in the first qualification round granting them a ticket to partake in the second round.
This round comprises of four groups A, B, C, and D from which, the best two teams will move onto the third Qualification round that will have eight teams.
The best four teams after round three will face off to identify the overall two teams that will play in the April finals from which one team will qualify for the Olympics.
Team Uganda comprises of Peace Busingye, Margaret Namyalo, Joanita Nabbuto and Kauthar Kagoya. Birungi Saidat sustained an injury in Tanzania earlier this year which came as a blessing in disguise for Namyaalo to get into the fold.
