Uganda Cranes head coach Jonathan McKinstry has ordered players not to engage in any media interviews regarding FUFA’s proposed reforms that will see clubs cut down to 12 in the Uganda Premier League.
The restrictions were given to all players who were summoned in the provisional squad for the 2020 African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament.
“I understand many of the players may have been approached by different media houses to respond to the proposal regarding league updates here in Uganda,” Read part of the message.
“I would advise avoiding the topic if possible as it appears some of you are unfortunately being presented with either incomplete or inaccurate information by some media houses. Most likely in order for them to get a cheap headline during a time when there is not a lot of football to report on,” Mckinstry insisted.
The gaffer from Northern Ireland went on to alert the players on the right personalities who are meant to discuss on the matter.
“The present situation is that a proposal has been made regarding how to restructure the top two divisions of league football here in Uganda, as well as introduction of a Reserve league, and now all stakeholders (clubs, etc) will have opportunity to discuss those proposals,” he said.
Last week, Uganda Cranes’ goalkeeper Dennis Onyango Masinde and midfielder Moses Waiswa publicly expressed their disagreement with FUFA’s proposals, a move that prompted McKinstry to intervene and deter the players from any further media engagements.
