Over two weeks ago, Uganda Cranes boss Milutin ‘Micho’ named a surprise player in his Afcon qualifier squad. His name Melvyn Lorenzen, was new to most of the staunch football followers/media in the country. The player was born in UK and turns for Werder Bremen.
This week, a UK based online paper The Westmorland gazette reported a young Ugandan player Isaac Musinguzi had been voted player of the season for Ambleside UTD FC that features in the Westmorland Association Football League one.
According to the online magazine, The 20 year old is a member of the international community at Rydal Hall, living and working at the Christian retreat and conference centre. He has been playing for the Ambleside team for the last few months.
The left midfielder was formerly a player for Nakuule Hotspurs in Kampala, Uganda.
“Isaac has been a breath of fresh air. He turned up one day on his bike, knowing no-one, with boots not fit for purpose, but the lads made him welcome,” said first team manager Mark Routledge who was quoted. “He has good qualities as a player, and as a person, he gave everything for Ambleside, which was appreciated.
“If we lost, he felt the pain and when we won, he celebrated with the team. We hope he’s around for a long time.”
General manager of Rydal Hall, the Rev Jonathon Green, said: “We are delighted that Isaac has been awarded this prize. He is a very valued member of our team here. We look forward to seeing him playing for an international team one day.”
