South African giants SuperSport United have entered the race to capture Ugandan free agent goalkeeper Ismail Watenga, ChimpReports can reveal.
Reports from South Africa indicate that SuperSport United has already approached the player’s representatives and negotiations are underway between both parties.
Ismail Watenga has been club-less since departing Ethiopian side Burna FC last year, a club he joined as a free agent from Vipers Sports Club in 2018.
Last week, Premier Soccer League defending Champions Mamelodi Sundowns also expressed interest in the highly rated goalkeeper and it’s now up to Watenga to match the offer.
Sources near the player’s camp insist that in case Watenga makes a move to SuperSport United, he might be the third choice in the club’s pecking order though joining countrymate and midfielder Moses Waiswa at the clubis an attractive deal.
The towering shot stopper will move in the footsteps of Africa’s finest Dennis Onyango Masinde and Posnent Omwony as Ugandan goalkeepers to have featured in the PSL.
This website however understands the Watenga would be immediately loaned out to gain more playing time if the Masandawana’s deal goes through.
