Former CECAFA General Secretary, Nicholas Musonye has officially confirmed interest in the upcoming elections for the Kenyan Football President role.

Musonye holds vast experience in football administration having served as the CECAFA General Secretary for over 20 years before handing over to Auka Gacheo last year in December.

“Many people and main stakeholders asked me to come back and harmonize football leadership in the country. There is no doubt about my experience in the management of the sport, having done this for over 20 years across 14 countries. As a patriotic and a lover of the game too, I could not resist, and I assure you we will do this,” said Musonye.

The development implies that Musonye will battle current president, Nick Mwenda among other aspirants.

Sam Nyamweya, Alex Ole Magelo, Bishop Moses Akaranga, and Lordvick Aduda having also shown significant interest in the role.

The elections were earlier slated for December 2019 before being pushed to March 2020.

However, the outbreak of the COVID19 pandemic ensured that the the elections would be further halted and pushed to later date yet to be determined.

The world’s football governing body, FIFA, Kenyan Football Federation, Kenyan government and Sports Disputes Tribunal will meet soon to discuss the possibility of holding elections.
