The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has continued to bite harder than before for certain players as sports shutdown continues.

With football being among the many that have been affected by the country lockdown, different clubs have failed to meet players’ contractual obligations as they’re struggling to break even.

According to the latest development, Uganda Premier League side Tooro United players have gone seven months without receiving a single penny from their bosses.

Reports indicate that the players were only given Shs. 200,000 for maintenance during the coronavirus crisis.

Recently, Tooro United players petitioned FUFA on the club ownership status which was unclear to them having been denied access to the new president since the departure of Smart Obed.

This coincides with last week’s move by top flight clubs through the Uganda Premier League Secretariat writing to the local Football governing body, FUFA seeking financial support.

Each club is requesting for a financial relief package of Shs. 60m to cater for players and staff, though FUFA is yet to react on the matter.
