Vipers Sports Club defender Toha Rashid has decided to play for the South Sudan National team over Uganda citing lack of playing time for the Cranes.
The towering has not featured for Uganda Cranes Junior and senior teams despite being in pole position to don the Cranes jersey.
Rashid, a son to Ugandan parents, the late Abubaker Asiku and Hassen Fatuma attributes his eligibility to play for South Sudan to the lineage of his grandparents.
The former Onduparaka captain was an unused substitute for Uganda against Rwanda in 2020 CHAN qualifiers and against South Sudan in the U20.

During the CHAN tournament, he was in the 18-man squad for Uganda Cranes that eliminated Rwanda 3-0 at St.Marys Stadium seeing the Cranes reach the final tournament in Morocco two years ago.
Since joining the Kitende outfit in September 2019 from the Caterpillars, Rashid has played only once, and that was in the 1-1 draw against Mbarara City at the St Mary’s Stadium.
Since then, the former Ramadhan FC and Moyo Central player has been on the sidelines nursing an injury and is yet to make full recovery.
Other players that have also decided to play for South Sudan over Uganda Cranes include Wol Makweth, Busoga United’s Ivan Wani and Bernard Agele who plays for Uitm FC in Malaysia.
