Former Uganda Cranes head coach Sebastien Desabre has been appointed as the new tactician for French Ligue 2 side Niort FC (Chamois Niortais).

The development was announced via the club’s official media platforms on Tuesday.

“It’s official, Chamois Niortais FC is holding its new coach and it is Sébastien Desabre. The native of Valence, now aged 43, will take his first steps as a coach of a professional French team, crowned with a simply exceptional journey around the world,” read the statement.

Desabre was appointed the club’s new manager on a two-year contract with an option to extend it for a further year replacing Franck Passi.

During his two-year stint in Kampala, Desabre guided Uganda Cranes to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt before losing Senegal 1-0 at the knockout stage.

In December 2019, he joined the Egyptian side Pyramids Football Club before being sacked with only five months into his tenure.

Desabre later managed Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca but again was relieved of his duties after a string of unconvincing results.

Last season, his new team Niort FC finished in the 18th position of the second division of French football following the premature ending of the league due to the Covid19 pandemic.
