Uganda’s long distance runner Sarah Chelangat has set a new 10,000m National Record in a late season race in Hengelo.

After 25 laps of the track, Chelangat clocked 31:06.46 to finish in the third position during the 10,000m Hengelo meeting that took place on Saturday in the Netherlands.

Having gained a podium finish, the Ugandan set a new National record beating Juliet Chekwel who had the previous 31:33.99 record set in 2016 in Italy.

Netherland’s Sifan Hassan clocked 29:36.67 to win the Hengelo meeting 10,000m race, beating Ethiopian Tsehay Gemechu who came in the second position on 30:57.73.

Kenyan duo of Evaline Chichir and Gloria Kite clocked 31:08.09 and 31:25.17 respectively while Spaniard Nuria Lugueros (34:16.05) and Portuguese Sarah Caterina (35:02.45) followed in the descending order.

In other news, Winnie Nanyondo finished second in the 1,000m, clocking 2:40.50 and lags four seconds behind her personal best in the distance (2:36.13).

Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon (2:32.82) won the 1000m race while Eunice Sum (Kenya) came in third with a timing of 2:41.37.
