The behind the scene preparations for the 2020 Masaza Cup tournament are in high gear following the lifting of the ban on sports activities by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
Initially, the Masaza Cup tournament was scheduled for June 2020, however, the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic led to the postponment of the Buganda Kingdom organised event.
The tournament organizing committee Chairman Hajji Sulaiman Ssejjengo while appearing on a local radio noted that six venues have been suggested to house this year’s edition which is tentatively earmarked for early November.
These include Mehta Stadium -Lugazi, Mityana Ssaza ground, Kasaana playground in Luweero, Masaka Recreational ground and Champions Stadium – Mwererwe.
The above-mentioned venues will however, be deemed fit to harbour this year’s Championship upon inspection from the FUFA Stadium Licensing Committee.
Ssejjengo also discussed the restricted entrance of fans to the stadia, regular observance of the COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) such as regular testing every after two weeks, temperature checks, frequent handwashing, sanitizing and wearing of masks.
All the strict measures are being attributed to the prevailing hardships caused by the COVID-19 pandemic that led to the twist of events and affected the tournament preparations.
He also hinted on making sure that there’s live broadcast of matches on both Television and radio since fans will not be allowed to access the stadia.
Bulemeezi are the reigning champions of the prestigious tournament having edged Busiro 1-0 in last year’s final at the Mandela National Stadium.
