Wakiso Giants Football Club has confirmed that four players will miss the 2020/2021 Uganda Premier League season start due to lengthy injury layoffs.
The players that have been ruled out of the season’s opening proceedings are Tom Masiko, Hakim Ssenkumba, Ayub Kisaliita and George William Katende.
“According to the medical reports, Kisaliita has grade II tear of the medial meniscus and grade III tear of the lateral meniscus, Masiko has a partial tear of the right ankle ligament foot while Katende has Grade III of tear of the medial meniscus as well as partial tear of the collateral ligament. The MRI scan on Ssenkumba revealed a grade II tear of the medial and lateral meniscus,” read the club statement on the official website.
Wakiso Giants head coach Douglas Bamweyana hopes the players won’t be on the sidelines for longer periods than anticipated.
“We hope the players won’t be away for too long and hopefully, we can have them back before its long but we’re not too sure on that,” Bamweyana stated.
Also, striker Karim Ndugwa has a minor cartilage injury on his right ankle though the medical team believes he will be back sooner and will miss a few training sessions ahead of the new season.
The 2020/2021 Uganda Premier League season is earmarked for 20th November 2020, a new date which was confirmed by FUFA following a lift on ban on sports activities.
