Uganda Hockey Association Convenes 2020 Ordinary General Assembly

The Uganda Hockey Association successfully held this year’s Annual General Assembly on Saturday at the Uganda Olympic Committee in Lugogo.

The assembly was attended by Michael Nashimoro (Vice Chairperson Uganda Hockey Association), Kenneth Tamale (UHA Assistant Treasurer), Stanley Tamale (Assistant General Secrerary), different clubs representatives and the media.

The National Council of Sports was represented by its Chairman, Dr. Donald Rukare and Dr. George Galiwango, who attended via zoom meeting due restrictions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

One of the key deliberations at the Assembly was the approval of the budget of Two hundred ninety six million three hundred thirty thousand Ugandan shillings (Shs 296,330,000).

The passed budget shall cater for all UHA’s expenses categorized into Seven namely; Local Leagues and Tournaments (23,200,000), Administration (33,860,000), AFCON qualifiers (52,120,000), Officiation Courses (9,630,000), TAP East Africa (41,220,000), Marketing (16,600,000) and DNSS (119,700,000).

Michael Nashimoro, the Association’s Vice Chairperson also hinted on the National teams (Men and Women) upcoming preparations for the 2020 North East Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers scheduled for 18th – 24th January 2020 in Kenya.

“We have held our successful 2020 Annual General Assembly and our main emphasis was on the National team’s preparations for the 2020 AFCON qualifiers in Kenya. We have already received applications from interested candidates who are willing to handle the National team. Some are locally based and intentional applicants as well and every soon we shall be having a vetting process to select the qualified candidate who will later be announced,” Nashimiro said.

“We expect to announce the provisional squad for the AFCON qualifiers immediately after the appointment of the national team Coach,” he added.

The vacant National team positions include the head coach, goalkeeping coach, team doctor and physiotherapist roles.

The Assembly also approved independent auditors of the Uganda Hockey Association, agreed to revive the East African association as a platform to expose the two National teams and also fast truck on the formulation of strategic planning which is at the point of data collection from all Uganda Hockey stakeholders.

In the AGM, it was suggested to initiate an increase in hockey playing spaces in the country, establish an administrative office to run the day to day work of Uganda Hockey so as to allow the board to concentrate on policy and strategic issues of hockey in Uganda.
