Uganda National Boxing Team (Bombers) has withdrawn from taking part in the forthcoming Bingwa Wa Mabingwa competition scheduled for 5th – 10th December 2020 in Tanzania.

The development has been confirmed by Uganda Boxing Federation President, Moses Muhangi during a press briefing held at Kati Kati restaurant in Lugogo.

While addressing the press, Muhangi bemoaned apathetic National Council of Sports, a body that monitors sports Associations and Federations on behalf of the central government.

He blasted the council for its complacency after giving a deaf ear to the Federation’s request of facilitating the national team’s preparations for the championship in time after a request was made on October 21st.

“We have decided to pull out of the Bingwa Wa Mabingwa competition and we shall not defend the championship. We earlier handed in our request to the National Council of Sports to facilitate our preparations with Shs460M for the event but we have never received any reply since then. NCS should know that sports is not all about money only but has a time factor as well,” Muhangi said.

“It’s now two weeks to the tournament and we can’t take part in the competition, even if we get all the money we need because we haven’t held thorough preparations to select a team that will represent the country,” he added.

Uganda is the defending Champion of the Bingwa Wa Mabingwa competition having won over eight medals in 2018 and it will be the first time for the Bombers to miss out from the competition in five years
