U-20 AFCON Qualifiers (CECAFA Region) | Semi Final

Uganda Hippos 3-1 Kenya

Uganda Hippos have booked their ticket for the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations tournament scheduled for next year in Mauritania.

This followed Uganda Hippos’ commanding 3-1 win against rivals Kenya in the U-20 AFCON qualifiers semi-final duel played at the Black Rhino Academy Sports Stadium in Karatu, Tanzania on Monday.

Proline’s Ivan Bogere bagged a brace while Kenneth Ssemakula completed the rout as the Hippos confirmed their booking for the AFCON U-20 finals.

Kenneth Ssemakula put Uganda in the lead when he tapped in a corner kick off Yiga Najib after 22 minutes.

Four minutes later, Bobos Byaruhanga released Ivan Bogere with a defense splitting through ball before the latter pocked home to double Uganda’s lead.

18 minutes into the game restart, Bogere completed his brace for the afternoon when he struck from the spot sending Kenya’s custodian on the wrong direction.

The penalty had resulted from a foul in the box on the forward (Bogere) by Kenyan goalkeeper.

Bogere’s brace took his tally to four goals in the championship following his two goals netted during Uganda Hippos’ 6-1 win against Burundi last week.

On the 80th minute, striker Enock Wanyama pulled one back for Kenya when he beat goalkeeper Jack Komakech from close range.

Uganda Hippos will play the winner between hosts Tanzania and South Sudan who will face off in the other semi-final at the same stadium.

The final and the third place playoff games will be played on Wednesday 2nd December 2020 at Black Rhino academy.
