Paul Nkata’s side Tusker FC squandered a clear chance to maintain their five point gap with second placed Gormahia after failing to beat bottom placed Sofapaka FC on Sunday in a Kenya premier league match.
The brewers were lucky to get a 59th minute equaliser from another Ugandan import Shafiq Batambuze who struck in a low floating ball past his compatriot Mathias Kigonya.
Moses Odhiambo had put the cash strapped giants in the lead with a brilliant header just half an hour into the game.
Tusker came into the game on 36 points, five ahead of close runners Gormahia on 34.
Gormahia used the slip to their advantage overcoming a stubborn City stars 2-1 with a last minute gasp from Collins Okoth.
Youngster Haron Shakava opened the game on the 22nd minute but his celebrations could not last more than a minute before Ezekiel Odera equalized.
In the other encounters, John Makwata sealed a hat trick as army side Ulinzi hammered Ushuru 3-2.
