The Federation of International Basketball Association has agreed to have Uganda national men’s basketball team (silverbacks) group E games of the 2021 FIBA AfroBasket qualifiers rescheduled between 15th June to 15th July 2021 at a venue yet to be determined.
The Silverbacks were unable to feature in the second and last window of the FIBA AfroBasket 2021 qualifiers after several members of the team in camp contracted Covid-19 right before the event in Monastir – Tunisia.
FIBA made the decision in line with it’s COVID-19 protocol regarding FIBA official National team and Club competitions and upon the advice of it’s medical commission.
“It’s a huge relief for us. We are delighted and excited about the opportunity to compete again. We are confident that our team will qualify and be in Kigali come August,” the Federation of Uganda Basketball Association president Nasser Sserunjogi said.
“FUBA is fully committed to adhering the new way forward and will communicate in due time on the preparations as we seek a ticket to the FIBA AfroBasket scheduled to take place in Rwanda from August 24th to September 5th 2021.”
Uganda is pitted in the same group E of the qualifiers against Egypt, Morocco and Cape Verde.
