Rare Source Mahmood Inspires Police Victory Over Mbarara City

Police 3-1 Mbarara City

Hassan Mahmood came up with a hat-trick as Police registered a 3-1 Uganda Premier League victory over Mbarara City at the MTN Omondi stadium in Lugogo on Wednesday.

The win ensured Police gol back to winning ways following their two all draw with Soltilo Bright Stars at Kavumba recreation playground last weekend.

The match started with Mbarara City’s forwards Henry Kitegenyi and Wol Makweth forcing Police goalkeeper Tom Ikara into two quick saves inside the opening ten minutes.

Striker Jude Semugabi however broke Police’s resilience after 27 minutes following a set-up by overlapping Ronald Edwok from the right before the forward placed the ball on the far post past Ikara.

With two minutes to recess, Hassan Mahmood connected home a perfect header off Odong Johnson’s exquisite chip past goalkeeper Muhammad Sekkeba as both squared off at halftime.

In the 49th minute, first half substitute Mubarak Nsubuga tapped in George Kiwolya’s pass from point blank but was judged to have scored from an offside position.

Kiryowa later rattled the woodwork before Kitegenyi failed to control Semugabi’s through headed ball onlyfor custodian Ikara to make a quick reaction.

Mahmood doubled the hosts’ lead off another well connected header after jumping high to nod home eventual man of the match Odong Johnson’s well delivered corner kick from the right in the 59th minute.

Ikara stretched to keep out Kitegenyi before being booked for resorting to time wasting tactics. Mbarara City’s skipper Hilary Mukundane was moments after cautioned for fouling Brian Muluuli.

Nine minutes later, Mahmood completed his hat-trick from the resultant free kick. His first shot was blocked Ankole Lions’ defensive wall before pouncing on a low drive rebound in the bottom corner.

After the commanding win, Police went on 23 points in the 4th position ahead of their Saturday trip to Bombo barracks for the SC Villa titanic clash .

Mbarara City, 13th on 11 points will on the same day play host to table leaders Vipers Sports Club at Kakyeeka stadium in an early kickoff (1:00pm).
