The Uganda Cranes camp is in buoyant mood prior to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations group B qualification duel against Burkina Faso on Wednesday 24th March at the St Mary’s Stadium.
The team successfully conducted the second training session yesterday in Kitende with an addition of four professional players that have boosted the camp at Paradise Hotel in Kisaasi.
Internationals including left winger Joseph Ochaya, midfielders Moses Waiswa and Allan Kyambadde along with defender Ronald Mukiibi Ddungu joined the team bringing the total to 21 players of the 29 expected.
Ochaya featured in Sunday’s morning training while the other three who arrived after training could only be part of the evening stretching and conditioning session under the guidance of Assistant coaches Abdallah Mubiru, Livingstone Mbabazi and Fred Kajoba (goalkeeping coach).
South African based forward Daniel Isiagi (Jomo Cosmos) has reportedly arrived in the country and is expected to join the camp in Monday’s sessions.
Team captain Denis Onyango, Faruku Miya, Timothy Denis Awany, Fahad Bayo and William Luwagga Kizito are expected to arrive today while defender Bevis Mugabi could miss the two crucial games due to a shoulder injury.
In case Mugabi, who turns out for Scottish Premier League side Motherwell bows out of the squad, he will be the third player to sit out from the initial 31-man squad joining midfielder Aucho Khalid (suspended) and striker Uche Ikpeazu Mubiru.
Uganda Cranes will fight for a win against Burkina Faso to brighten their qualification chances before taking on Malawi in the final game next Monday away in Lilongwe.
