From playing to coaching, the Uganda Cranes ex-international Baker Mbowa has taken another route to serve and develop the game of football on both the alocal and international scene.
The legendary Uganda Cranes winger, currently attached to Uganda Premier League entity Soltilo Bright Stars as head coach on Saturday, launched the ‘Baker Football Academy’ in an event held at Akamwesi Shpping Mall playground in Kyebando.
With Mbowa’s vast experience in identifying and nurturing talent from the grassroot, Baker Football Academy will operate with the same prime objective and securing kids’ talent in the Kawempe division.
“Baker Football Academy aims at promoting talent in this area and it’s overall target is about football. The academy has come to secure every talent in this division so that we can promote it to the next level. And hopefully I think we are going to work hard because we have been doing this for so long and I know how we can do it and with God’s blessings we shall do better,” the former KCC winger noted.
He added, “the international exposure is going to be high because we want to promote our players outside Uganda and in all regions of the country so the exposure is going to be good because I know the way forward to achieve it. I’m having many people behind me including my former director Mujib Kasule and everyone blessed me to start this initiative so we shall prosper.”
Despite the process being hampered by the Covid19 pandemic, the academy stands with parents as the main sponsors.
“I’m currently subscribed to Life Team coached by Baker Mbowa and as well have my son who has passion for football. So I know coach Mbowa personally and we’ve been friends for quite a long period of time so it was inevitable to bring my son to this academy and I believe his talent will be developed,” a parent to Manzi Liam noted.
Registered under the Uganda Youth Football Association (UYFA), Baker Football Academy started with close to 30 kids who will conduct their training programs at the AstroTurf of the Akamwesi Shopping Mall playground.
