
Uganda golf national team captain shot an opening one-under-par 71 to take lead as the Tusker Malt lager Uganda golf open teed off on Wednesday at the Uganda golf club course in Kitante on Wednesday.
The 23 year old golfer who was in a title group that had defending champion Ronald Otile, Zambia’s hot property Aaron Simfukwe and Kenya’s Edwin Mudenyi took an early lead on day one same as teammate Joseph Cwinyai.
The amateur category teed off in high gear at 8am with Otile setting pace. There was an interruption at some point as the games were disrupted with rain but business resumed after a 30 minute stop.
Muhumuza who came close to winning the title in 2014 took the day with impressive at hole 5, before completing at 3,8,10 and 13.
Defending champion Otile who managed an opening two under par 70 last year could only settle for fourth this year at 74.
The overall winners in both the amateur and professional categories will win an all expensive paid trip to Abu Dhabi. Action continues on Thursday
