Express vs Lweza
Muteesa II stadium, Wankulukuku
4:30pm

Express will start the 2016/17 Azam Uganda Premier League against rivals Lweza in the much anticipated Wankulukuku derby on Friday.

Both sides unveiled their new recruits on Wednesday with Express bringing in Sam Ssenkoomi and Derrick Ttekwo from URA, goalkeeper Emmanuel Opio and target man Herman Wasswa from league champions, KCCA. Suleiman Mutyaba who is returning for a second stint at Wankulukuku was appointed the new captain for the Red Eagles.

On the other hand, Lweza have equally prepared for the new season bringing on board experienced players. Veteran striker who had a torrid season at SC Villa last season netting just twice joins the Orange brigade to fill the void left behind by Geoffrey Sserunkuma who joined KCCA. The other new recruits include Owen Kasule from KCCA, Asuman  Alishe from SC Victoria university, Patrick Ssembuya who is on loan from Vipers and goalkeeper Brian Bweete from URA.

Paddy Kintu, the new coach at Lweza starts his tenure at the Entebbe road based club with one target at hand and that’s ensuring the Orange brigade maintain top flight status.

Express have enjoyed bragging rights over their counterparts in the Wankulukuku derby winning three of the four times the two sides have met in the league with Lweza come better on one occasion during the 2014/15 season.

The red eagles have scored at least a goal in all games against Lweza with the last meeting  ending in a 2-0 win for the Alex Gitta coached side last season.

There will be renewal of acquittance with Sula Bagala facing his former bosses whom he dumped in January this year to join Lweza while Express’ new recruit Mahad Kakooza will also be playing against his old employees.
