League debutants Kirinya Jinja SS FC have picked a valuable point against URA FC in a decently attended match at the Bugembe stadium in Jinja on Friday.
The ‘students’ have themselves to blame for failing to convert numerous chances despite controlling a better part of the game.
Tricky left winger Mark Bamukyaye and David Kiiza rolled the game but it was the tax collectors who made the first serious attempt through Shafiq Kagimu.
Shafiq sent in a beautiful in-swinger from the right wing after Allan Drajua had fouled Nicholas Kagaba. The freekick flew past the defense only to hit the crossbar and cleared out of play.
The midfielder came closer again with a long range at the quarter hour but his shot kissed the top bar and out of play.
URA’s better chance of the half presented at the half hour, Kulaba laying a splitting pass aimed at Feni Ali but the recipient went down after Mulondo had appeared to have pushed him from behind but the referee ignored calls for a penalty.
Kirinya shifted the guns to their hosts in the 40th with a good combination from Bamukyaye and Otim only for the latter to shoot wide after losing stability.
Otim who was a constant threat to Kisala’s back line failed several other numerous chances in the second half including a late sitter in the 78th despite facing an empty goal.
“Generally I can say we played very well though the final touch wasted our efforts. It’s still work in progress and I hope to correct the mistakes in the next game,” Jinja SS FC coach Isabirye said.
The club face their eternal rivals JMC Hippos on Tuesday in a highly billed derby.
