Kawempe Muslim 1-2 Crested Cranes
The Uganda national female football team, the Crested Cranes began their preparations ahead of the inaugural women’s CECAFA tournament with a buildup game against league champions Kawempe Muslim.
The crested cranes staged a comeback to beat Kawempe 2-1 in a game played at the valley grounds in Kawempe on Monday. Last season’s MVP, Hasifa Nassuna gave Kawempe the lead before Sandra Nantumbwe and Namataka Betty struck for crested cranes.
Nassuna gave Kawempe Muslim the lead just after seven minutes, tapping home inside the penalty area past goalkeeper Fatuma “Kim” Matovu but playmaker Sandra Nantumwe who plays for Gafford Ladies levelled matters in the 37th minute. Betty Namataka snatched the winner for the national team in the second half.
Kawempe Muslim are preparing for the forthcoming East African secondary schools tourney that will be held in Eldoret, Kenya starting this weekend.
On the other hand, the national team is preparing for the inaugural women’s CECAFA tournament that will be held in Kampala next month with several countries confirming participation.
Nassuna, Kawempe’s skipper believes the game against the national team provided a perfect build up.
“I believe the game today has helped us to identify our mistakes and I think we shall improve in departments we are lacking before going to Kenya,” she said.”
The team is expected to leave for Kenya on Wednesday.
