State Minister for Education and Sports, Hon. Charles Bakkabulindi on Wednesday flagged off a contingent of students from various schools that will compete at the 15th edition of Federation of East African Secondary School Association (FEASSA) games that will take place in Eldoret, Kenya.
While sending off the contingent, Bakkabulindi encouraged them to go and make Uganda proud.
“You are no longer playing as individual schools or teams but you are now lifting the Uganda flag, so you are representing Uganda. We believe the championship will be for Uganda,” said Bakkabulindi.
“Kenya beat us at the recently concluded Olympics but go and prove to them that Uganda has got talent,” he added.
Team Uganda will be represented with a contingent of 801 participants making a total of 54 teams from 32 schools.
St. Mary’s Kitende registered the most teams from Uganda, a total of seven teams including netball, basketball, and football among others.
Grace Banura from Gombe SS who is Team Uganda’s captain believes all the athletes are ready to compete.
“I know we have a big task ahead of us but I believe we are ready to compete for the various disciplines,” she said.
Kenya are the defending champions after scooping the overall title in Rwanda last year.
The championship is expected to start on 27th August and end on 4th September in Eldoret, Kenya.
