Former Nigerian and Arsenal star, Nwanko Kanu is scheduled for a one week tour in Uganda starting Tuesday 29th March. The player who is a StarTimes Africa brand ambassador has a lengthy programme lined up.
“Kanu will arrive in Uganda on Tuesday 29th March,” StarTimes Uganda marketing manager Aldrine Nsubuga revealed to Chimp Sport.
“He will be among the guests who will inspect and watch the 2017 Afcon Qualifiers between Uganda Cranes and Burkina Faso. Kanu is also scheduled to visit the Mulago Heart Institute due to his heart problem history.”
The lanky 6, 5’ forward was part of the Nigerian team that won Gold Medal in the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. He was diagnosed with a heart defect that threatened to cut short his career and forced him to undergo a successful heart surgery successfully in Cleveland Hospital, Ohio in USA.
It’s on this basis that the former African Footballer of the Year started the Kanu Heart Foundation with a determination to see that five KHF Hospitals are built in Africa to ease the problem of undetected heart disease and corrective surgery.
“Kanu who is on a three-year deal as a StarTimes ambassador will also attend the StarTimes Cup between KCCA FC and SC Villa on Wednesday 30th at Lugogo stadium before taking part in a training at a match with kids in Kawempe to talk to them and give them hope,” Aldrine continued.
The last time Kanu was in Uganda was on June 2 2007 when Uganda brought down the Super Eagles 2-1 in an Afcon qualifier at Namboole.
