Newly appointed Nyamityobora FC coach Charles Ayiekoh has lauded organizers of the memorial football match played over the weekend in Kabale to remember fallen (football) heroes from the region.

The match which was played on Saturday saw Kampala legends outsmart the Kabale Legends 4-3 in front of a packed ground.

“This is a good initiative as it will encourage the young boys in Kabale to engage  in football,” Ayiekoh remarked. “There are so many skilled young boys in Kabale but they lack motivation and hence divert from the game.” Ayiekoh has previously coached Horizon FC from the region.

In the game, KCCA FC attacking left winger Paul Mucuureezi fired in one goal for the Kampala legends in the 29th minute just after he had set Brian Zatwoshaho’s opener.

Mohammed Lukwago trippled the lead for the city borns in the 39th minute to send game into the break at 3-0 margin for the visitors.

Sam Viduka and Dan Rubereti’s double pulled the Kabale legends level by the 80th minute but were not lucky enough to escape with a point when Lukwago sealed their fate late in the game.

Match with a cause
Some of the legends from the region who were post humuosly honored include coach Jackson Turyagyenda and players like Dan Mirembe, Elvis Turyatemba, Ivan Twesigye alias Siniya among others.

Also in attendance was the chief organiser Hon. Andrew Baryayanga, the Kabale municipality member of parliament who helped raise about one and a half million shillings which was handed to the mother of Ivan Twesigye alias Siniya who once played for horizon FC. Siniya died in an accident that involved a horizon bus in Malongo along the Mbarara –Masaka road.
