The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) is set to retire the current Uganda cranes jersey as a symbol to honour the team’s efforts to qualify for the 2017 African Cup of Nations.
While addressing the media on Wednesday at Fufa house headquarters in Mengo during the weekly press conference, Fufa President Moses Magogo said they will do this as a way to
appreciate the gallant cranes.
“As a federation, we thought it would be good for us to retire the current cranes jersey as a tribute to the team upon qualifying for AFCON,” he said.
According to Magogo, the jersey will only be used up to the tournament in January and thereafter unveil a new kit.
“We shall use the current Jersey for the games against Ghana, Congo Brazzaville and during the African cup of Nations final in Gabon and thereafter unveil a new kit,” he explained.
Uganda cranes qualified to the 2017 African cup of Nations after beating Comoros 1-0 on 4th September at Mandela national stadium courtesy of Farouk Miya’s goal.
Magogo also indicated that the federation is in talks with about four kit manufacturers that are willing to start supplying the national team with the jersey but they are still weighing up the deals on the table.
The Fufa president also indicated that an opportunity for the new jersey will be put to the general public and the federation will pick the best item.
