A day after the climax of the women’s CECAFA football championship, the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has treated the Uganda  women’s football team to a luncheon held at Jevine Hotel,Rubaga in Kampala.

Fufa president Moses Magogo who also was in attendance applauded the Crested Cranes for their performance during the 10 day tournament that was held at the Fufa technical centre in Njeru.

“I want to take this moment to thank the coaches and players for the performance in the tournament despite finishing fourth. Our team is in a process of rebuilding and therefore the result would not necessarily matter at the moment but continuity and commitment towards the women’s team is what is important,” he said.

“As Fufa,we took the risk initiative of hosting the championship even without a sponsor but we used about 300m shillings simply because we think women’s football is equally important as the men’s football.” Magogo stated.

Speaking on behalf of the team, Christine Wanyana the team captain thanked Fufa for developing women’s football.

“As a team we thank the Federation for uplifting the status of women’s football in the country and above all offering us the opportunity to represent our country as a national team,” the skipper said.

All the 23 players who were in camp were given playing allowances with each player walking home with Uganda shillings 800,000 while the team officials received 1M shillings.

Uganda finished fourth at the women’s CECAFA championship that was won by Tanzania after defeating Kenya 2-1 in the finals.
