Former Uganda Cranes defender Henry Kalungi has been voted the best defensive player at USA’s United Soccer League giants Charlotte Independence.
The selection was done by Charlotte Independence’ fans through a voting process
Kalungi has so far finished over a year at the Charlottes since joining from Richmond Kickers last year in July.
“Thank you Charlotte family and friends for the support. I am honored to be the 2016 Defensive player of the year. God bless you all,” an excited Kalungi posted on his social media accounts.
Kalungi received his first accolade in the United States of America in 2006, his first year on the land when he was named Most Valuable player while playing for Winthrop University in Rock Hill, S.C.
He had made 56 appearances by the end of that season and also received the Big South All-Tournament Team and NSCAA/adidas All-South Atlantic Region Team accolades.
He has also played with the Hampton Roads Piranhas and Fredericksburg Gunners in the USL Premier Development League.
